Chat Together makes an impact

This year we started a new friendship club called Chat Together at Valentine Primary School in Sholing, in partnership with St Mary’s Church, Sholing.

Last week (July 22, 2024) was the last session with a group of 10 children who have come every month and really grown in confidence as they got to know our adult visitors.

Growth in confidence

They did really well at a listening skills exercise and then had fun together building towers out of newspaper.

Tricia Kenyon, our Service Development Officer, says: “The club has had a clear impact, that could be lifelong, on the children, some of whom have particular challenges to overcome.

Heart-warming

“The growth in the children’s confidence has been astounding and heart-warming for the adult participants.

“We have had a small group of local Communicare service users join us, but we would love to have more joining in.

Reduce loneliness & isolation

“Our aim is to reduce loneliness and isolation and what better way than for young and not so young people to get to know each other and broaden their life experiences.

“If this appeals, let us know as we hope to start up again in the autumn. Your own sense of purpose and value can really be boosted by helping a child to feel seen, heard and valued.”
