Communicare in Southampton has been privileged to be leading on establishing the Southampton Mental Health Network, an organisation that is bringing individuals and organisations across the City together, united by the vision to “make Southampton a mental health friendly City”.
Membership is open to any individual or organisation wishing to become involved.
Building on a three year platform of gathering support the Network held their first meeting in February 2019 and officially launched to the wider public in May 2019.

Should Communicare create a special group of Mental Health Befrienders?
A sympathetic listening ear can be a real lifeline at this difficult time. Will you help us with our Awards for All bid for Mental Health Befrienders by completing a short survey?
We are bidding so that we can continue to support, and expand our services for the people with mental health challenges, who sadly, tend to stay on our waiting list longer than those without. We’d love to put together a team of Mental Health Befrienders and are putting in the bid to finance the initial training our volunteers will need, as well as the ongoing support and advice throughout their time volunteering with us.
We really need your help to support us with this and the survey only takes a couple of minutes – please share as the more people that answer, the more weight our bid will carry. Click here for the survey. Thank you.
Back in January 2020 we held two highly successful engagement days which were attended by many of SMHN’s members. Dr David Kingdon Emeritus Professor at the University of Southampton addressed the audience with a keynote speech about the importance of the Mental Health Network and what he hopes it is going to achieve.
