Communicare in Southampton has been privileged to be leading on establishing the Southampton Mental Health Network, an organisation that is bringing individuals and organisations across the City together, united by the vision to “make Southampton a mental health friendly City”. Membership is open to any individual or organisation wishing to become involved. Building on a three year platform of gathering support, the Network held their first meeting in February 2019 and officially launched to the wider public in May 2019.

A message from Rebecca

Hello! My name is Rebecca, and I am delighted to introduce myself as SMHN’s interim network administrator. I am also still working as part of Communicare’s coordinating team, which means I am working reduced hours on the network.

I have aspired to learn about and work in mental health since my early teens. Since then, I have studied and worked in psychology and mental health, and I have personal experience of using mental health services. So I was more than happy to take on the administration of the network! In my spare time I also enjoy reading, running at Southampton’s athletics track, and shopping for vintage/ second hand clothes.

Abi, our former network administrator, kindly spent some time before she left showing me the ropes, and I’m still learning about the network from Annie and SMHN’s Trustees. Thank you to all of the above for your help with getting me settled into the role.

You can contact me at smhn@communicareinsouthampton.org.uk. I also hope to meet more members in person soon! Please say hello if you see me at a meeting / event, and I will sometimes pop into our monthly Shuffle Club social meet up.

Engagement Event

Back in January 2020 we held two highly successful engagement days which were attended by many of SMHN’s members. Dr David Kingdon Emeritus Professor at the University of Southampton addressed the audience with a keynote speech about the importance of the Mental Health Network and what he hopes it is going to achieve. Click here for a short video about the event.
