Become a volunteer

We need you.

Covid19: We are having a lot of enquiries about volunteering to help people in the current situation. We are pleased people want to help, but in order to keep the people we help safe, we need all volunteers to complete our full application process, which involves getting 2 character references and for most roles DBS checks. On average, this takes about a month. Whilst we will do our best to speed this up, often this is beyond our control.

Unfortunately our office is now closed due to coronavirus guidelines (the team are working from home) so please can you avoid posting us correspondence as we are uncertain how long it will remain closed depending on government guidance. If you are able to scan the correspondence and email it to us we will be able to access it that way as we are able to access email and ansaphone messages remotely so that we can continue to help people at this difficult time.

There are a wide variety of volunteering opportunities and we are always seeking new volunteers – we constantly have a waiting list of people needing help! If you’d like to volunteer for Communicare, please contact us for a chat to find out more, or alternatively fill out the volunteer application form and email it to us.

Communicare in Southampton could not exist without it’s valuable volunteers. Currently we have over 210, showing compassion for others by providing help and friendship.

We get requests for all sorts of neighbourly support and there is always something you can do to help, no matter how much time you can give, whether it’s one hour a month or several hours a week. All we ask is that have a kind heart and a little time to spare.

Our office is currently closed (we are working from home) due to guidance regarding the coronavirus, however in normal circumstances we have an open-door policy for all our volunteers. Therefore, during our office opening hours, our volunteers can just drop in if they need to see us, claim mileage expenses, hand in donations or give us an update on their volunteering. We also have optional volunteer forums throughout the year, and social events such as our annual volunteer celebration evening. Such occasions are great for getting to know other friendly people in the City and learning from each other’s experiences. There is also training offered by professionals to cover key issues related to volunteering and client situations on a regular basis.
