Are you scam aware? Operation Signature

Did you receive scam information from Southampton Police today? If not, see the leaflets pictured. Perhaps you could share this with any vulnerable people you know? SCAMS are schemes to con you out of your money. They usually come by post, phone or email. Tips to avoid being scammed:

NEVER give out your personal information over the phone. If you think you may have received a scam call from a bank, HMRC or similar, call 101 immediately.

DO NOT be pressured into signing anything.

NEVER reply to competition letters or sign up for a catalogue order in order to ‘claim’ your winnings.

BE WARY and always ask for Identification where applicable. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

BEWARE of bogus callers (1) Lock all doors, even when you’re at home (2) Are you expecting someone? Do you require a password from them? If you’re not sure – don’t answer the door (3) Police need to know about unwanted or suspicious doorstep callers. Call them on 101 in the first instance or phone 999 if you feel threatened.
