We’ve opened a new lunch club – Fairfax Court
We’ve opened a new lunch club!
We’re inviting Thornhill residents to a new charity lunch club we’ve recently launched in the area to help enrich the lives of lonely and isolated people. We’re hosting the lunches at Fairfax Court sheltered housing on Hinkler Road on the second Monday of the month from 11.30am until 2pm.
Our Manager, Annie Clewlow explains: “Thanks to a grant from Southampton City Council, which we used in part to launch our monthly lunch club at Meon Court in Harefield last autumn, we were able to start a another new club last month (May 2019), this time in Thornhill on the east side of the city.
“Meon Court has been such a great success that we’ve been able to open up this new lunch club and are very excited to be able to offer the opportunities for socialising that we provide to a wider area across the city.
“We’re now keen to hear from more diners who would like to join us, and are, also, always happy to hear from anyone who could help out, especially with acting as drivers to bring people to the club if they do not have their own car or are unable to get to Fairfax Court using public transport.
“For those who can use public transport, Fairfax Court is well served and easy to access, which is a wonderful bonus, but we still need drivers to assist those who need extra support to get there.
“Our lunch club is staffed by our committed, kind-hearted Communiteers, who act as good neighbours, generously providing a natter, cuppa, lunch and a game of Scrabble or similar social activities, as well as other practical and emotional support.”
We have a wonderful team of Communiteers who volunteer and give up their time to cook and serve the meals at our lunch club and a group of attendees keen to come along to meet others and have lunch together.
The lunch club is open to anyone who would like to join us. All the dishes are home-cooked meals by our dedicated team of Communiteers.
As well as the food, there’s a chance to chat and take part in afternoon activities. We are looking at bringing in speakers from the local history group and physical activities like a chair-based exercise class, as well as crafts, games and quizzes.
