BBC Radio Solent interview

Client Carol’s story of loneliness and new found friendship

Communicare client Carol and her volunteer befriender Barbara spoke to BBC South journalist Julie Massiter about loneliness and the benefits experienced through our befriending service.

Carol talked about the severe isolation she has experienced in her lifetime, particularly after her mother died and her ill health; how she “had absolutely no one” except her family.

Since having Barbara her befriender go round her house each week she no longer feels isolated.

Manager, Annie Clewlow, of Communicare, joined Julian Clegg in the BBC Radio Solent studio to discuss further isolation, the impact it’s having on the city, and what can be done about it.
