Expert on falls at Sholing Friends
Former Falls Clinical Lead Physiotherapist in Southampton Sally Ann Belward is presenting at Sholing Friends group at Hart Court on February 2 to help officially launch the new club (2026).
People living in the area are invited to hear Sally Ann speak at the friendship club, run in partnership with us to boost social connectedness in Southampton.
What to do if someone falls
Sally Ann says: “I’m delighted to be speaking to the members of the Sholing Friends at Hart Court in February. My talk will focus on what to do if someone falls – a situation that can feel overwhelming but where knowing the right steps to take can make a real difference.
“As the former lead Physiotherapist for the Falls Service in Southampton, I spent many years helping people stay safe and active. Although I’m now retired, I’m committed to continuing that work by sharing practical knowledge and strategies with groups across the city.”
Friendship club
Sholing Friends is a new friendship club bringing together our service users, Hart Court residents and anyone from the area who wishes to go along. It takes place on Mondays from 10.30am-12noon at Hart Court on Cranbury Road in Sholing.
Gwen Appleton, who lives at Hart Court, is a Communicare service user and volunteer and helps organise the club with Yazmin Holtby, Local Housing Manager, explains: “We’re very grateful to Communicare for its ongoing support of our club and are delighted to welcome Sally Ann on Monday, February 2 from 10.30am–12 noon. We hope lots of people from the community pop in to hear her speak – it’s an interesting topic that is important to all ages.
Bringing people together
“Sholing Friends is all about bringing people together. It’s open to all residents in our local area, so whether you join us for a cuppa, a chat, or to take part in the activities, everyone is welcome!”
Our Manager, Annie Clewlow says: “We are delighted to be partnering with Sholing Friends and to be involved in this wonderful new group. It is a great club that we know will offer valuable social opportunities for everyone who goes along.
Every Monday
“If you are in Sholing on Monday, February 2, we warmly encourage you to come along. There is a suggested donation of £2. Join us for a cuppa, a chat and the chance to hear Sally Ann speak. For those unable to attend this event, the group meets every Monday, and you are welcome to join whenever you can.
Indebted to the Rotary Club
“All ages are welcome. We are particularly indebted to Southampton Solent Rotary Club, who have supported us with resources to launch Friendship Groups across the city.”
