Half marathon training

Faith’s half marathon training update

“With less than a month to go until the Southampton ABP Half Marathon, I’m working on increasing my run distances and trying to speed up my pace! (Although the two don’t always seem to go hand in hand, when towards the end of a longer run my legs are heavy and I feel like I’m plodding along at a snail’s pace.) This year’s training has thrown up some unexpected challenges compared to last year, when I did my first ever half marathon…the snow we experienced over the past month was an inconvenience but I did attempt a (very careful!) run when the snow was just starting to thaw – no slips or trips thankfully, just very wet and cold feet as I splashed through slush along the route.

“I am hoping that the lighter evenings and supposedly warmer weather, will be encouragements for me to get out and run more in the coming weeks.

The biggest encouragement of all though is to have people supporting me and cheering me on. I’d love to be able to raise at least £500 to support the ongoing good work of Communicare in Southampton. There’s something special about being able to run through the city I grew up and now work in, and it seems appropriate to support this charity that provides neighbourly help to those in need across this city. The race is a wonderful event for bringing the community of Southampton together. If you would like to join our team of Communicare ‘Communicheer-er-on-ers’ along the race route, it would be great to see some supportive smiling faces to keep me going! The link to sign-up is here
