Why Ann volunteers for us

Why Ann volunteers for us

We’re often asked by people thinking of volunteering with us why they should choose Communicare.

It would be easy for us to give you lots of reasons why, but its best if you hear from our volunteers yourself.

‘Volunteer Stories’

So, as part of 2024 Volunteers’ Week we’ve put together a selection of ‘Volunteer Stories’ to give you more information on what volunteering for us involves and how it benefits our service users as well as you.

Ann is currently helping us as volunteer on our Mayflower Court Intergenerational Project.

Loneliness

She says: “After I retired, I had time to spare and wanted to do some volunteering. I realised one of the biggest problems of our time is loneliness.

“I met people who were so isolated and alone with no one to have a chat to or to share a cup of tea with. I wanted to volunteer at a local organisation rather than a big charity, so when I got a flyer through the door from Communicare with their ethos of being a good neighbour, I realised this was perfect. And I was right.

Chat to someone

“Since joining Communicare, I’ve enjoyed meeting people who needed help with their shopping or taking to hospital appointments, or just generally wanted to chat to someone.

“Volunteering is very rewarding, not only do I feel I make a difference in someone’s quality of life. I also enjoy the company of the people I meet.”
