SCPA urgently seeks volunteers to help it provide services in school holidays

The Southampton Children’s Play Association (SCPA), which we work with on our intergenerational project CommuniTea, is urgently seeking volunteers to help it provide its services during half-term and Easter holidays (February 2022).

Anna Roberts, Play Development Manager at SCPA, which provides free playschemes and after-school clubs, said: “We are running our free playscheme at Weston Adventure Playground during the half-term holidays and it is so popular, so we are looking for extra people to join our team to help us provide this fabulous service. It’s really important, after the last few years we’ve all endured, that children are allowed to play and be together. It’s incredibly significant for their wellbeing and that of their family as a whole.

“We’re also looking for individuals to help us during the Easter holidays in April too and other upcoming holidays on a voluntary basis. As part of the team, you will plan, provide and deliver a wide range of play opportunities for children and families across the city within venues and open spaces

“Anyone who is interested in volunteering should drop me an email at office@scpa.org.uk or call 023 8043 3086. We also have paid positions available for those seeking a more permanent role. Experience or qualifications in Playwork preferred but not essential as training will be given. People can visit www.scpaplay.org.uk/get-involved for more information.”

SCPA opened its doors in 1973 and began with a group of parents from the community with a vision of creating free, accessible play schemes. It now provides schemes throughout Southampton that are open access, inclusive and community minded.

It regularly partners with us to run free and informal CommuniTea events for both adults and children every Thursday from 10am until 12pm at Weston Adventure Playground, Kingsclere Avenue, Southampton.

The CommuniTea events run during term-time only on a drop-in basis and include free tea and cake to attendees in addition to a variety of optional fun activities. The event is open to everyone in the community but children must be supervised by an adult.
