We’re supporting a call for an increase in the HMRC Mileage Rate

We’re backing calls for the Government to increase the HMRC Mileage Rate.

The price of petrol and diesel is going up and up, but, at the moment, we can only reimburse our volunteers 45p a mile when they use their vehicles to transport our service users, as the Mileage Allowance Payment is currently 45p.

If we reimbursed more than that, it wouldn’t be tax free and could be seen as a payment, rather than reimbursement of expenses, and this would impact significantly on our volunteers and their ability to help us, and our service users.

Petition to ParliamentIn response to the issue of ever-increasing fuel costs, the Good Neighbours Network, which we are part of, has set up a petition to Parliament asking for the HMRC mileage rate to be reviewed.

We’re urging the general public, anyone who works in the charity sector, who volunteers or benefits from the services we, and other charities like us offer here and country-wide, to sign the petition, which can be found here.

Our service users are mainly elderly and have wellbeing issues. Many need help to get to GP appointments and hospital outpatient clinics, as they have no other way of getting there, and we have a waiting list of more people who need our help.

We need more volunteer drivers

We need more volunteer drivers to provide just a little bit of time each week. We are searching for people who are available Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm to coincide with medical appointment times.
