Runners raise £2,000+ at marathon

Runners who participated in the ABP Southampton Marathon on Sunday (April 7, 2024) have helped raise £2,131 plus GiftAid for us.

Our team, which even included three generations from the same family running together, took part in the 10km and half marathon races to help raise awareness and funds for us.

Record number

Annie, our Manager, said: “This is such a wonderful amount of money to be raised by our Communicare running team and, this year, we also had a record number of runners, 14, wearing our t-shirts or sashes too. This gave us some wonderful exposure, raising much needed awareness for us in the city too. Everyone did a fantastic job and we’re so proud of them for completing their various races and for choosing to help us.

Great times

“Our runner Ali Fisher, who is Day Opportunities Manager at Southampton Living Well, part of the SCiA Group, did the half marathon and managed an amazing time of 2:38:30.6. Kevin Sawers, who has run for us before, also successfully completed the half marathon and did a brilliant job.

Family of runners

Our other wonderful fundraising runners, who did so well, were husband and wife, Adrian and Debs Robinson. They were joined by Adrian’s parents Brian, aged 80, and Ruth, who ran and 10k, as well as son Joshua. The couple ran the half marathon and notched up the respective times of 1:57:03.5 and 2:09:30.9.

Team Communicare

“Three of our Coordinators, Jess Lee, Anna Pilgrim and Liz O’Neill, all ran the 10km and one of our volunteers, Zara Fardell, ran the half marathon. They were joined by Liz Bocock, who entered the half marathon for us and completed it in 2:19:29.7, and Illy Holleyman, who ran the 10km. Also on the team was our volunteer, Ian Painter. He finished the half marathon in the great time of 1:53:41.7.

“The money and awareness raised by these wonderful runners will go a long way to furthering the work we do to help vulnerable and isolated individuals in Southampton.

Communibears

“It was also great to see two of our human sized Communibears there – Adrian was in one suit taking part and our Coordinator & Office Supervisor, Bryony Sawers was in the other suit cheering our team on and lending a paw in support on the day too. We’d like to thank everyone who entered for us and came along to show their support too. We’ve already had a few people say they are signing up again for us next year as they had such a great time.”
