When volunteering hits the right notes

When volunteering hits the right notes

We pride ourselves on doing our very best to match volunteers and service users when it comes to befriending.

We help people of all ages who are isolated or lonely in communities across Southampton.

Multi-generational success

One of our multi-generational success stories is Jane and Becca.

Jane, who is retired, tells us all about her volunteering experience with us and how much fun it is.

She says: “I really enjoy visiting a younger person once a week – it’s a refreshing change and has been great fun. It’s been good for us both and I am getting just as much out of it because I am socialising with someone younger than me and doing all things I enjoy too.

“I have previously befriended older people and those the same age as me, and it’s lovely to also get a younger perspective on things.”

Music & cooking

The duo were originally matched up as a befriending pair so Jane could go out walking with Becca, but then they discovered they had a shared passion for music too.

So, they started playing recorders and have even done some cooking together and are proficient at making carrot cake and flapjacks.

Look forward to

Becca says: “This gives me something to look forward to every week and I really enjoy it.”

A couple of hours

If you ever have a spare hour, or so, each week, then we’d love to hear from you, as we always need more volunteers and the experience may also benefit you too.

We’re flexible

We can be flexible and work around your other commitments whether you have a young family or are working.
