NEW Weston Coffee Morning - All Ages

Weston Coffee Morning – All Ages

Free weekly drop-in community coffee morning for all ages to launch in Weston!

SOUTHAMPTON charities are inviting residents to help bring the generations together by getting involved in free and informal CommuniTea events for both adults and children from this month (September 2021) onwards. Communicare and Southampton Children’s Play Association (SCPA) have organised the mornings starting on Thursday, September 2 and running weekly from 10am until 12pm at
Weston Adventure Playground, Kingsclere Avenue, Southampton.

Communicare Manager, Annie Clewlow explains: “In March last year (2020) we were ready to launch a series of coffee mornings, where people can have tea or coffee and cake, in partnership with SCPA at their base in Weston. This was an element of our inter-generational strategy. Unfortunately, our mornings couldn’t go ahead due to lockdowns and restrictions, which, while completely understandable, was disappointing for all involved. However, we are now all set to relaunch and to welcome residents for this and other activities and events in a supportive community environment. We’d love to see lots of people getting involved in this event, but we are also seeking volunteers to help run and shape future CommuniTea events too. If you think that could be you, please call 023 8250 0050 or email volunteer@communicareinsouthampton.org.uk.”

The CommuniTea events will run on a drop-in basis and will include free tea and cake to attendees in addition to a variety of optional fun activities. The event is open to everyone in the community but children must be supervised by an adult. Anna Roberts, Play Development Manager at SCPA says: “It’s great to be working with Communicare on our CommuniTea coffee morning drop-ins. With the lifting of restrictions, this is a great opportunity for members of the community to meet and chat over a cup of tea or coffee and a slice of cake while receiving the peer support they may have missed out on for most of the pandemic. This is especially important for parents and children who haven’t had access to their usual support groups, but we’re also keen to have all generations attend and socialise together. We’re looking forward to seeing people in the community getting together and creating a supportive environment. We’re also excited to see how volunteers help develop and shape the events in the coming weeks and months, as more people sign up to offer assistance.”
