Our volunteer conference is huge success

Our volunteer conference is huge success

We recently (March 25, 2023) hosted our annual conference for our volunteers, which included a variety of workshops and a celebration event, and it was a huge success.

Variety of workshops

Our attendees were able to take part in a variety of workshops, including spiritual care, hearing and dual sensory loss, mental health, living with loss, find your patch, skills for telephone calls and looking after ourselves and others.

Delegates discussed and shared skills they had learnt during the workshops and were able to gain new skills too, which they took away with them to use within their volunteering roles with us.

Fun and refreshments

We also had a fun game of ‘Would I Lie to You’, a raffle, long service awards and cake, supplied by our wonderful commercial venture, CommuniBakes.

Alongside the cake, a special tea was served, that was blended for us by Alexis Rendell from Tea Mountain. It was absolutely delicious!

One of our long-serving volunteers, Tammy, received a certificate for 15 years of service to us, we are hugely grateful to her for dedicating so much of her life to us and the people of Southampton.

More workshops and creative session

More workshops took place in the afternoon of the conference, including an introduction and insight into sight loss (with guide dog), ways to wellbeing, an introduction to Dementia Friends and help and advice on managing stress effectively. We also got to try out Sally-Ann’s BIOSWAY machine, for balance assessment, and a creative session took place to finish off the day.

Thank you for attending

We’d like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to everyone who came along and made the event such a success!
