Our Tree of Light campaign gets bigger for 2025
We’ve launched our 17th annual Tree of Light fundraising and awareness campaign with more live switch-ons than ever this year.
We’re helping beat isolation through our sponsored lights, each one commemorating a loved one or special cause, and our trio of switch-on events in November and December.
Three real life switch-ons
Our Manager, Annie explains: “We’re launching our popular annual Tree of Light campaign earlier than normal this year, so more people can get involved and, we’re so excited to announce that we’ve not one, not two, but three real life celebratory switch-on events this year too!
“For our 2025 campaign, we’ve a huge tree outside St. James by the Park Church, Shirley, one of the beautiful pines in the Woolston Millennium Garden and a large, donated tree at St. Mark’s Church, Archers Road. Each one will be covered in hundreds of sponsored Christmas lights to commemorate loved ones and special causes. We hope lots of people can join us at one or more of these special, free to attend, switch-on events.
Highlight loneliness
“While our switch-ons highlight issues related to loneliness, especially during the forthcoming festivities, they’re also jubilant and inclusive celebrations of life and the season that are free to attend for all. No booking required.”
Hundreds of sponsored twinkling lights, commemorating loved ones and special causes, will cover the huge tree outside of St. James by the Park Church, Shirley, one of the beautiful pines in Woolston Millennium Garden and a donated Christmas tree at St. Mark’s Church, Archers Road.
Remember a lost loved-one
Annie add: “By sponsoring the lights on our trees, people can remember a lost loved-one as we start the countdown to Christmas or mark something special. Each light also helps support our charity, which befriends people in communities city-wide. Along with our band of Communiteers, who give their time and support on a voluntary basis, we’re working hard in communities through our various Good Neighbour initiatives.”
Supporting our work
We’re hoping, once again this year, that lots of people sponsor a light on one of our trees, so we can continue to help those who would like to see a friendly face on a regular basis for a chat or to assist them with simple tasks like travelling to doctors’ appointments, social events or going shopping.

Every donation we receive for our small charity, makes a big difference to the lives of those we help and support. We’re here to help people live their best lives, rather than to just exist and every penny counts.
How to sponsor a light
Anyone who would like to sponsor a light is asked to make a minimum donation of £8. The names of those being remembered will be recorded in a remembrance book and published on the charity’s website. People can also send photographs, short poems/verses or a tribute for inclusion in the book.
